Fellow flyers

The fly in on 26 June 2010 was a huge success and we’ve had pilots from as far as Welkom attend the fun. At least 28 pilots registered and fun was had by all. I am sorry to say that very few club members attended, but we will be having more of these days in the not too distant future and trust that more of you can make it next time. We could not have asked for better weather and the day commenced with the pilot’s briefing at 10h00 followed closely by the first flights.

Many displays were flown i.e. 3D heli & fixed wing, large scale formation, a break the ribbon and spot landing competition was held and won by Andre Beukes, RC parachute drops took place. On the first drop the skydiving blonde unfortunately bounced in the mealie field behind the club house but after a good dusting was ready for further(successful) jumps.

Raffle tickets were sold and drawn for great sponsored prizes and Martin Snyman and his lovely wife Lea, ensured that our tummies were not wanting for food and drink. Some of the lucky winners were:

SU 26 30 cc ARF

Arguably the most anticipated moment arrived when Jan Backer dropped a can of coke from the bomb bay on his stick at marked paper plates spread across the field, and the participant with his plate the closest to the area of impact won a large scale 30 cc SU 26 ARF sponsored by Tino Booysen of  THE KNIFE EDGE SPIN and Theo Boezaart. Congrats Andre Kilian for anticipating the point of impact “so accurately” to within at least 20 to 30 meters.( The impact was a bit to the side of the main body of plates).

There were many spectators and the kids were entertained with a sweet drop by Jan and a jumping castle.

Although the idea was only to promote the club and have fun, we realised R 1300.00 from pilot’s entry fees & raffle tickets and gained at least 3 new members. The whole day was organised on the premise not to cost the club anything, and it didn’t! Everything required was sponsored by members.

I wish to extend a special thanks to the following people.

  • Theo Boezaart for suggesting and organising the day, his sponsorship & participation.
  • Tino Booysen and THE KNIFE EDGE SPIN for sponsorship & participation.
  • Pieter Walters and HIGHFLYER for sponsorships.
  • Jan Backer for participation(hope you could sort those radio problems Jan).
  • Frik de Beer for sorting water pipes,  toilet seats etc in time & participation.
  • Andre Kilian for sponsorship, TX control & participation.
  • Jan Kooiman for direction signs, safety officer duties & participation.
  • Gert Prinsloo for loan of generator, photography & participation & HUGE PC for sponsoring the 22" LCD monitor.
  • Carl Brandt for jumping castle & TX control.
  • SAMAA(Loffie) for attending the event.
  • Peter Morey and his team for ensuring that the grounds were well kempt & clean.

The day was ended with Theo undertaking a spectacular night flight with his Christmas tree illuminated heli.
