Greetings and Salutations

I hope that you all had a blessed and safe festive season and had time to take a break. I understand that some had almost a whole month of flying, between IRF and using the White Hills field. On this note, our sincere thanks to the White Hills Flyers Club for their hospitality during the period 24 December 2011 to 3 January 2012 whilst the facilities at ARC were closed over Christmas and New Year. It is this committee’s intention to invite our friends from White Hills and treat them to a Braai sometime during the month of February or March 2012, as a special thanks for their hospitality and friendship. They would not even accept a landing fee from us. Once we agree on a date, we will communicate with you so that we all enjoy a great fun fly day. Perhaps even organise some fun competitions (Egg drop, streamer chopping etc…).

Dear Friends

I must begin by apologising for the long silence.  Work commitments and other personal little challenges distracted me for a little while and by the time I caught my breath again, I realised that three months had already gone by since our last communications.  The last few months were absolutely fantastic from a weather perspective.  Attendance at the club over the week-ends is absolutely tops and I can truthfully tell you that I am really grateful to all of you for the fun, friendship and the opportunity to completely relax after the week’s rat race.  I now get complete withdrawal symptoms when I miss even one week-end’s flying.  We have been blessed with a record new membership take up to date, including a number of friends who have decided to re-join after a short absence.  You are all valued and very welcome!

Dear Friends and fellow enthusiasts

I trust this communication finds you well and rested after the series of public holidays we have just enjoyed.  Unfortunately, the weather has not been very kind to us over the past two months since our previous news letter.  Our proficiency day was hampered by rainy weather and unfortunately we did not manage to do the Gold and Instructor ratings – more on this under the training and instructor section.  Another casualty from weather was our War Bird day, which followed the same fate as our friends from Barnstormers and their War Bird day.  Both had to be cancelled due to weather.  Please refer to the events calendar for info on the revised days for both these events.

Unbelievable as it is, we are already at the end of the first quarter of 2011. We continue to enjoy a great turnout on Saturdays and Sundays and it is great to see so many new members at IRF as well as some of our old friends who have joined us again. Greetings dear Friends

This will be a great year for IRF with many exciting and entertaining club activities for you our most valued members. We have heard your wishes and are committed to making our club a week-end destination of choice, where a bunch of great friends may unwind and enjoy our favourite sport. It is our intention to keep you, our membership, abreast of club matters, forthcoming events etc... In the form of a news letter every second month. This will be posted on the Web site as well as mailed to our active membership.

AGM and Fun Day 20 November

Please note that the Annual General Meeting will be held at the clubhouse at 14:00 on 20 November 2010.  An agenda will be distributed within the next few days, with the main item being the election of a new club committee for 2011.  Please keep the date open, as the intention is to combine it with fun events (egg drop, spot landing etc.) with a braai later the afternoon.  Please bring your own chairs – the club will provide the charcoal etc.  As this will be the last newsletter before the new committee takes over, we would like to thank the current committee for all their commitment and work this year, and our members for their support under difficult circumstances.  Also thanks to Theo and the other guys that ensured that the criminals at our club were arrested!  Although there have been no further incidents of crime at the club (other than toilet doors stolen) we requests members to be vigilant when flying in small groups.

Fellow flyers

The fly in on 26 June 2010 was a huge success and we’ve had pilots from as far as Welkom attend the fun. At least 28 pilots registered and fun was had by all. I am sorry to say that very few club members attended, but we will be having more of these days in the not too distant future and trust that more of you can make it next time. We could not have asked for better weather and the day commenced with the pilot’s briefing at 10h00 followed closely by the first flights.
