Invite to a Fly weekend at the South Coast
Fellow IRF Club members
I am busy organizing a fly-in at South Coast Association of Radio Flyers (SCARF) for the long week-end of 27th April to the 1st May 2018 which promises to be very enjoyable.
South Coast Association of Radio Flyers is situated on the Oribi Gorge Flats, ±30km’s North West from Port Shepstone, KZN, on a private farm with a full-size grass runway of ± 1 km. The owner of the field, Syd Latham, is very accommodating towards RC-flying and will most likely visit the club during the week-end. The SCARF members are a bunch of nice guys and they enjoy the hobby just as much as we do.
I have previously arranged fly-inns at SCARF in the early 2000’s which were well supported from pilots from Gauteng. What also makes the weekend great, is that while we are flying, our beloved spouses can go sightseeing or go to the beach.
Although the Fly-in starts officially on Saturday the 28th April, we are welcome to fly on Friday the 27th April from 0800 onwards. There will be a bring-and-braai on Saturday in the late afternoon/early evening. on the Saturday, with a bring SCARF will supply the braai fires. SCARF has excellent club facilities with electricity and toilets. Pilots who would like to fly electric planes will be able to charge batteries at the field. SCARF also has a Web and a Facebook page where you can go and have a look what the club entails. I have also included some photos of my last visit to SCARF.
ACCOMMODATION
I usually stay in Southbroom but it is a fair distance from the flying field. There is an Estate Agency in Southbroom (Realty-1) that have holiday accommodation available for those who are interested. Accommodation is also available in Margate, Uvongo, Ramsgate, and Shelley Beach. Mr Google will assist you in finding suitable accommodation in the area.
There is also accommodation closer to the club for example:
1. The owner of the field apparently has a few chalets that he can rent out on a low-key basis (I will obtain more details and let you know if somebody is interested)
2. Leopard Rock ( ± 4km from the flying field (stunning views)
3. Oribi Gorge Hotel (± 7 km from Flying Field)
4. Lake Eland (± 15 km from flying field) – this is a game reserve and offer a lot of activities for example Zipline, cycling etc.
Unfortunately no turbine jets are allowed to fly at the club, as this is a working sugar cane farm and the fire risk is too high.
I have also created a Whatsapp group for that weekend and I will gladly add you to the group if you are interested in joining us (this group is strictly to share info and not for chit-chat).
Please let me know if you are interested in going. We look forward to fly and have some fun together at SCARF.
Regards
Andre Beukes
